Shelton CPAs Nonprofit of the Week: Lost River Cave Nature Center

Nature fills the soul and speaks all languages, but as with any foreign language, you have to learn to understand it. With today’s busy lives and the allure of technology, nature and its benefits have become unknown to many of people. The Nature Center team at Lost River Cave wants to be your tutor to learn the language of nature and help you find your place in the great outdoors.

You can be a part of a nature program and expand your knowledge on geology, wildlife, and many other interesting topics. Go on a guided hike with friends, participate in an all-natural fabric dyeing class, or join in on any one of their year-round nature-centered programs. Lost River Cave started with just 2 nature education programs back in 2008, and now offers 71 programs for students’ grades K-12, families, and adults of all ages.

One of Lost River Cave’s most popular kids’ programs is the Animal Encounter. It introduces children to animals and insects they may find scary. This program provides students with living examples of a variety of animals. “Our team of staff and animal ambassadors teach kids why the rabbit they ‘ooo-and-ahh’ over as well as the ‘scary’ snakes and spiders that may make them quiver are all important. The program is designed to use education to ignite their curiosity and transform their fears into understanding and appreciation,” says Katie Cielinski, Director of Development at Lost River Cave.

You can get involved and support Lost River Cave’s nature-centered programs by volunteering or making a donation. You can directly support the Animal Encounter program and the kids it serves by closing out 2019 with a year-end gift to help fund the 2020 care of Lost River Cave’s team of animal ambassadors. You can do so by going to https://lostrivercave.org/animals/ or by calling Katie or Kate at (270)-393-0077.
